City of Port Moody Official Community Plan (2014)

Coronation Park has residential and mixed use land designations in the Official Community Plan (OCP), allowing up to 26 storeys. An OCP amendment is being sought to allow for additional height at Coronation Park.

The "Happy City" Approach to Coronation Park

Happy City, a planning and design firm focused on the connections between happiness and the built environment, developed a well-being framework tailored specifically to Coronation Park using input from the community. Community input was obtained during various pop-up events at Suterbrook Village and Moody Centre.

The following guiding principles have been identified as part of the wellbeing framework and are incorporated throughout the refined proposal:

Proposal refinements
Playful Family

Wesgroup is committed to diverse housing forms and tenures across Coronation Park including:

  • High-quality housing that embraces a mix of tenures enabling community diversity and resilience in the long term

  • Family-oriented homes

  • Purpose Built Rental

    • A minimum of 10% of the new rental homes will be dedicated to seniors

  • A rent to own program

A total of 115,456 square feet of commercial space is now proposed at Coronation Park. This includes a new grocery store, drug store, small-scale retail, daycare, and office space. This will result in the creation of approximately 540 new jobs.

Kids Running

The public park space has increased from 1.5 acres to 2.53 acres. The park has been reconfigured to be interwoven between the built environment and accessible from several points across Coronation Park creating better barrier-free pedestrian circulation. Potential programming at the park includes gardens, lawn areas, children’s play areas, outdoor fitness areas, and urban agriculture.

The proposed daycare has been increased by 1,500 square feet. The space is now envisioned as a 9,500 square foot space, accommodating approximately 90-120 children.

Day Care
Community Service

A 2,000-4,000 square foot turn-key City-owned community space is proposed in the northeast corner of the site.

Our proposal includes $2 million in public art that will be located on site for new residents and existing community members to enjoy.

Coronation Park is still envisioned as a sustainably designed master planned community with the potential to: utilize rainwater management on-site, provide buildings that meet significant energy performance standards, and use local products and resources where possible. We have also included opportunities for urban agriculture, the inclusion of pollinator plants throughout the garden, and vegetation nataive to the area.
